Hump Day: 6/15/2011

Hello!  I hope y’all enjoy this weeks Hump Day.  I will do an EOTD tomorrow along with the most recent synopsis of GoT (will be caught up!).  If those go according to plan, I will kick off my product reviews with Too Faced’s Amazing Face Liquid Foundation on Friday.

Without further ado…

Song of the Week:

I’ve recently been relistening to the Ponyo soundtrack recently, and I am absolutely in love with this song.  The singer’s voice is absolutely gorgeous (dat high note!), and you just don’t hear music like this in a children’s movie very often.   When I sing opera, I aspire to sound like this.

Video of the Week:

I pretty much DIED laughing when I watched this.  I’m pretty sure it’s fake/scripted, but still.  It’s great.

Product of the Week:

Plug incoming!  My company, Geek Chic Cosmetics, launched our new set of lip balms yesterday called Bio Balms.   These lippies are much less pigmented than our glosses and lipsticks, as they are mainly targeted towards those customers of ours that asked for some more ‘wearable’ colors. (What… you don’t want to wear Toxic Unicorn to the office? LOL)  They are very nourishing for the lips, and work great as either an overnight lip treatment or shimmery lip balm for during the day.

We’re all very proud of the work we put into it to release it, so if you have a chance, check it out!

Gaming, Etc:

  • Duke Nukem is out!  Seriously!  And it’s seriously bad.  It’s being panned by critics everywhere, and managed to scrape a 58 on Metacritic somehow.  From what I’ve read, it’s clunky, outdated, and the graphics are terrible.  Oh well.  The Chinese Democracy of video games, I suppose.
  • On the other hand, OoT 3D is getting glowing reviews.  As it should.  I can’t wait to get it, it’s probably the main reason I got my 3DS. (Also, I have every LoZ game <.<)  With touched up graphics, better controls, a better inventory system, and option for harder bosses, new master quest… this game is nearing perfection.  I’ll probably plow through it in a few days and review it + 3DS.
  • I’ve made it into Chapter 2 of The Witcher, and I have to say that I am enjoying it much more than when I started.  The story is picking up and getting more interesting, plus I’m having fun collecting all the sex cards… LOL.  I am currently on a no buy for video games (made an exception for OoT), so here’s the games I have left to beat before I can buy more: The Witcher, Darksiders, Super Mario Galaxy, Bioshock 1&2, Fable 3 (almost beat), Assassin’s Creed, Half Life 2: Episodes 1&2 (I’ve beat HL2, just not the episodes yet),  and the Alan Wake DLC.  SIGH.
  • I really, really, really want this.  Someone make it for me, plz. I would have had Link as the Bishop, and Epona as the Knight… but still.

Sales:

  • At Geek Chic, we have our buy four get one free sale back on due to popular demand, plus we have a ‘color of the month‘ at half price!  This month, it’s Solid Snake.  One of my personal favorite colors.
  • On Steam, Darkspore is 40% off landing it at $29.99 versus $49.99.  Also to note, if I think a game looks crappy, I won’t advertise its sale.
  • Beauty Ticket got a metric fuckton of Caudalie bath products in stock for some pretty good sales.  I haven’t tried them out, so I don’t know how good they are.  But it might be worth checking out.  Also some stuff from Jurlique.  Next time I get paid I’ll probably pick a couple things up.

Any other sales?  Let me know!

Boobtube:

  • Game of Thrones is almost finished… one episode to go! 😦  It’s okay though, because True Blood starts like a week later.  And having read the books, I am SO EXCITED FOR THIS SCENE.

Also, don’t forget to watch the trailer.  Season four starts on June 26th at 9PM on HBO.  WATCH IT. 🙂

Hump Day: 6/1/2011

Hooray! I finally got this out.  I was also at Nordstrom Rack today, and while the clothing prices were not that good, there was a small shelf of Too Faced stuff at awesome prices.  I got two lip glosses: Mirror Shine in ‘I Love Myself’ and Girls Dig Pearls in ‘Tropical Pink’.  I dig them, so I’ll probably do a review with some swatches this week.  Yay!

Got the first half of my finals done today… 97/100.  I can live with that.

I’ll do my EOTW look tomorrow… got too late, and I’m exhausted.

Song of the Week:

Yes, more Adele.  Because she’s amazing.  This is probably my favorite song on the album now… someday I’ll get around to doing a review of it, but it’s genius.

Video of the Week:

This is the straightest thing I’ve ever seen.

DINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDINGDING~

Product of the Week:

This stuff is amazing.  Honestly, I love the ‘Yes to…’ brand so far, I haven’t been disappointed by anything yet.  The cucumber wipes are probably my favorite product from them, but this shampoo gets special mention this week as it is one of the first shampoos I’ve ever tried that actually works for me for an extended period of time.  Usually my hair ‘gets used’ to the shampoo, and stops working… and my hair gets all oily.  But I’ve been using this stuff for 2+ months now, and I haven’t had that happen.

I also don’t like to buy any products that have been tested on animals, or buy from a company that tests on animals period.  To the best of my knowledge, they don’t.  (That means buying the expensive detergent and stuff from the organic section, LOL. 😦 )

Gaming, Etc:

  • For those who aren’t on my Facebook, I am now on a ‘No Buy’ for video games.  I have about 8-10 games that I haven’t beaten yet… so I’m going to beat them before I get a new game.  (Except for OoT 3D, of course.  I can’t not get that game.)  This is unfortunate, because one of my friend’s has L.A. Noire, and I got to try it out the other day… and it’s ridiculously fun.  I only got to do a couple cases, but I enjoyed it.  I’m hilariously bad at driving.
  • On THAT note, I’m finally making my way through The Witcher.  I’m unsure as to how I feel about it yet.  I need to get farther in.  The english voice acting is pretty terrible ( I switched it to Polish, the original language), and the combat system is clunky, from what I’ve heard from friends is that the story more than makes up for it.  We’ll see!
  • I’m also playing through Dragon Age 2.  Yes, again.  How can I resist this face?

woogie.

  • I’m a bit late on the wagon, but if you want to donate to Japan relief efforts, there is a pretty cool way to do: Cosplay for a Cause.  A bunch of well known Cosplayers got together and put together a 2012 caldender: 100% of the proceeds go to the Japanese Red Cross Society.  You can pre-order it now for 17.99.

I seem to be putting a LoZ image in these posts every week.

BOOBTUBE:

  • Since all of my favorite shows have ended, there really isn’t anything interesting on TV to me right now, besides GoT.  And that is ending soon.  Trueblood starts June 26th however, and I’m pretty excited about that.  I’ve read all the books, and I know what’s coming. 😀  It’s a great book, let’s just say.  I hope they stick somewhat close to it in certain parts. 😉  Other than that, I’ve saved Supernatural to watch this summer.  And I may finish Being HumanAny other good shows that you guys recommend?   I needz new blood!
  • Movies wise, this summer is shaping up to look pretty good.  I’m excited for X-Men: First Class.  I have a bunch of movies I need to catch up on, I still haven’t seen the newest Harry Potter movie.

That’s it for this week!  But I have a lot of stuff planned!  MANY WHELPS! HANDLE IT!

Hump Day: 5/25/2011

NOTE:  Did you all survive rapture?  Cool.  No EOTW today, I did it this morning and it got smudged…  and I’m too lazy to redo it.  So I’ll do it tomorrow as a separate  post.  It’s a look I’ve actually grown quite fond of and have done a couple times this week.  (Ambassador + All the Rage = win!)

SONG OF THE WEEK:

I loooove this song.  So I’m making it song of the week.  The video is a pretty exceptional one done by Koopiskeva.  I normally am not a huge fan of AMVs (most of them are not done very well), but I love the ones done by this guy.  Also, this is my favorite song by Sara Bareilles.  The way the entire song builds is pretty fantastic, give it a listen.

VIDEO OF THE WEEK:

“It’s a big interest.  It’s a regular interest.”

I changed it from ‘funniest’ video to just plain best video.  When I heard Beyonce’s new song ‘Run the World’, I had a pretty ill impression of it as well.  Someone linked this video critiquing it, and I loved every second.  Although, Beyonce was just used as a means to portray an argument concerning feminism… but it was very well articulated, and thought out.  I want to fuck her brain.  LOL.

If you have some naive perception in which you think ‘girls run the world’, watch this video. 😉

PRODUCT OF THE WEEK:

I LOVE this stuff.  I’ve been using it for a good month now and it hasn’t run out so I’m going to do a review here this week.  Good coverage, doesn’t make me break out, good packaging, and the color matches me perfectly.

GAMING, ETC:

  • Still playing Rift, still loving it.
  • This is really cool.  An actual Ocarina to go with with my OoT 3D?  Yes, please.  However, you can only get one if you live in Australia.  Or have a really good friend that lives in Australia.  However, it’s only a plastic one (though it does play).  I actually have a really nice ceramic Ocarina of Time… cough.  Because I’m a huge fucking nerd.
  • Speaking of which… would you like a new OoT 3DS trailer?  Of course you do!  Better graphics and 3D without glasses… what’s not to love?!  I already have a 3DS so when I get this game I can finally do a fucking 3DS review + OoT review.  This is probably literally my favorite game of all fucking time.

OF ALL TIME.

  • Age of Conan is now free to play.  Uh, are people still playing that?
  • I REALLY WANNA PLAY L.A NOIRE.  Two more days.

SALES:

  • It’s Ubisoft week on Steam!  That means a different Ubisoft game/series will have a huge markdown each day of the week.  Today, it’s Trackmania!  It’s only $10 versus the $39.99 regular price… so that’s 75% off.  Pretty cool.  Also, all Ubisoft games are 33% off all week long (except for Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood, and IL-2 Sturmovick: Cliffs of Dover).
  • Too Faced is having their semi-annual ‘Friends and Family’ sale!  Use the code ‘FF2011S’ on checkout, and get 20% off!  Sale ends tomorrow.  Right before I get my money.  Of course.

Those are the only two big sales I’m aware of, but if there are any others, let me know!  I will gladly add it.

BOOBTUBE:

The finale stretch is almost over!  Of the shows I watched, Glee, Grey’s Anatomy, The Office, and Supernatural all ended last week.  Sob.  Cougar Town is ending tonight, I believe, with an hour long special episode in Hawaii.  A lot of the shows seem to have pulled out all the stops this year!

  • Glee:  I absolutely loved this show, but I had mixed feelings about this episode.  I wanted to love it.  I really did.  Unfortunately, it had a mix of some really awesome scenes mixed with some scenes I really could have lived without.  The flow of the story was just… off this episode.  It felt rushed.  Overall, I enjoyed it.  My favorite episodes of this season: Born this Way, The Sue Sylvester Bowl Shuffle, Never Been Kissed, Original Songs, and weirdly enough… Grilled Cheesus.  I just love me some Kurts.

WHAT I DID LIKE:

“My Cup”

Blaine’s ‘I love you’.

Rachel and Kurt singing ‘For Good’.

SAMCEDES.

New York!

Quinn.  I know there is lots of hate out there for her right now, but her character is still probably one of the most interesting ones.

‘New Directions’ not winning regionals.  I’m sorry, but it would have been completely unrealistic.  If they were actually serious about winning the competition, they would not have been writing the songs that they were going to sing the day before the competition.  They would have written it a month ago, and been practicing it day and night.  Jesse had it right. The choreography was atrocious as always. But never fear my gleeks, they are sure to at least place next year, or in my opinion, get first.  There is no way they are going to let them graduate without doing so.  I’M CALLING IT NOW!

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

Pretty much everything with Mr. Schue.  As the show goes on, I am finding myself liking his character less and less.   So fucking self-righteous.  Plus, I really could have done without the plug of his album.

No April Rhodes.

Pacing.

Sunshine.  Pretty much every time she gets on stage, I zone out.  She has a good voice, I just don’t like her particular style… and she’s quite bland as a character.

The original songs.  The other ones grew on me, so maybe these will too, but… meh.  They were kind of bland.  The only good thing about them was the kiss between Finn and Rachel.  Totally saw that coming.

  • The Office:  Loved it!  Across the board!  I honestly think the loss of Michael Scott might have made The Office funnier.  Don’t get me wrong, I love Michael Scott.  But his character had run its arc.  With the loss of Michael, the rest of the cast has been given much more screen-time, and lots of reminders of how great they are.  I was laughing pretty much non-stop, and I was almost surprised at how much I was laughing.  I don’t really understand why this episode got slammed by people, I really enjoyed it.  Oh well.

WHAT I LIKED:

Uhhhhhh, James Spader?  I’m pretty desperately wishing he’s in the next season, and gets hired.  Even if it is only temporary, god I love that man.  I would do dirty things to him.

Pretty much all of the guest stars were pretty spot on: Jim Carrey (LOL), Ricky Gervais, Catherine Tate, Ray Romano, Warren Buffett, and Will Arnett.

Creed as boss.  BOBODDY.

Ryan giving Jim a speech.

Gabe leaving.  Fucking finally.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

Andy rejecting Erin.  Wtf?

  • Grey’s Anatomy:  Overall, it’s another solid episode for Grey’s Anatomy.  And for once, it didn’t involve a mass catastrophe or a bunch of people dying.  Oh wait… it did, but not on screen.  LOL.

WHAT I LIKED:

Henry/Teddy!  It’s about time!  I love Scott Foley.

Less Callie.  Don’t me wrong, I love Callie, but there has been way too much of her lately.

April getting Chief Resident.  I’ve always liked her, and she deserves it.

All the families helping the mother of the un-accompanied minor.

WHAT I DIDN’T LIKE:

Derek.  Obviously he had a reason to be upset, as I would be, but seriously?  Telling her she wouldn’t be a good mother?  Christ.

Owen and Christina’s debacle.  They were both wrong.  Christina should have considered Owen’s feelings, and Owen was completely over the top to kick her out of the house because she wanted an abortion.

Mark and Lexie getting further apart.  I liked them together, and I hate Lexie/Jackson.  Oh well.  I would be okay with April/Mark, though…

Coming Up:

  • Thursday: EOTD, Game of Thrones synopsis
  • Friday: Amazing Face Liquid Foundation review

Hump Day: 5/18/2011

Hurray!  My EOTW took WAY longer than I expected it too (and I’m still not completely happy with it), so this week’s post will be a bit shorter.  Because I want to play Rift.  SO THERE.

Song of the Week:

If you haven’t read my post about Pendulum, you should do so.  Immersion is seriously a great album, and this is probably one of my favorite songs off the album.  If you read my review, you can see that Immunize wasn’t one of my favorites when I first heard this album, but it really grew on me afterwards.  Usually the songs that grow on me end up being my favorites.  It’s just so fun to listen to, and it would make awesome fight music.

Funniest Video of the Week:

ROFL.

EOTW:

I’m not sure where the inspiration for this look came from.  I snatched a bunch of samples from the GC lab so I could do more varied looks, and I had promised to do a look using one of the new colors from the Star Trek, and I kinda just picked colors that I thought complimented it.  It’s definitely a night-time look.

This is my first time wearing Galactically Banned Ale (the new color from the upcoming Star Trek set Go Boldly), and I really like it.  It works exceptionally well with Solid Snake in my opinion.  Also, holy cow!  I forgot how awesome Solid Snake is!  Just so you all can fully appreciate it, I did a few swatches as well.

EYES:

Product of the Week:

Solid Snake!  Yeeaaaah!

Solid Snake, with Galactically Banned Ale. I could not capture the true beauty of these colors in camera, so pretty.

'Purity Burns' felt left out.

Gaming, etc:

  • After being promised to be released countless times over the past few years (most recently May 3rd), Duke Nukem has announced another release date: June 14th.  If you pre-order the game, or buy the GOTY edition of Borderlands (great game), you get to play the demo for Duke Nukem on June 3rd.  I’ll believe it when I have the game in my hot little hands.
  • L.A Noire is out!  I hear it’s pretty gud. (90 on Metacritic.)
  • The Witcher 2 is also out.  I need to finish 1…
  • Steam is now doing Daily Deals, which is pretty cool.  Singularity is on sale right now for 10.20 (66% off).

Game of Thrones review coming tomorrow!  I think I’ll just make the official synopsis day Thursday, because that seems to be when I do them.  Holy cow, was this episode intense.  I’m ridiculously excited for next week.  You should be too.

Hump Day: 5/11/2011

It’s that time of the week again!  Were you waiting as anxiously as me?  Probably not.

Song of the Week

Why?  Because I believe this is one of the only Glee songs to take two songs that were pretty bad by themselves (you know it’s true) and mash them together and make it good.   Lea Michele and Dianna Agron’s voices work really well together, and for once Quinn gets a song that actually matches her voice.  Pair it together with the montage, and it has a pretty good emotional impact as well.  (This song is from Born This Way, 2×18 of Glee.)

Product of the Week

I love this stuff.  Seriously.  I can’t use oil-based moisturizers, and this stuff is godsend for me.  You literally spray in on your face or anywhere you desire on your body, including your hair (if you rinse it out after).  Do not get it in your eyes!  This is a HG product for me.  Expect to see a full review of this soon!

Ingredients: Purified water, Na-PCA (the sodium salt of pyrrolidone carboxylic acid), eucalyptus, ethanol, monolaurin (the principal antimicrobial factor in mother’s milk).

Eye Look of the Week

My first ever eye look!  Hooraaay.  I had fun with this one, I call it Salarian King.

Gaming, Etc.

  • Of the games I’m interested in, YOU DON’T KNOW JACK is on sale on Steam for 50% off… $9.99.  If meaningless trivia is your thing, check it out.  You can play with friends as long as they are with though, but this game is sorely lacking an online multi-player feature that would make the sales of this game skyrocket.
  • Rift launched patch 1.2 yesterday!  Why am I excited about this?  Because with this patch they also launched free trials!  And ‘Ascend a Friend’!  This means I can try out Rift for 7 days free because I am extremely poor and won’t have money to get it until next week.  I can’t really comment on the rest of the patch notes because I have not played the game yet, so I don’t know what much of it means.  When I play this game for a good period of time (get to max level and possibly do some raiding), I’ll probably do a review of it.  I do not think Rift is a ‘WoW Killer’ by any means, but I do believe that it is a contender for sure.  Rift will have its growing pains, but I think it has the potential from what I’ve read to stick around for a while. (For those who don’t know, I was a WoW junkie from Vanilla until somepoint in WotlK when I was just bored to tears.  Resto Druid!  I did play again in Cataclysm, got to 85, and then quit again.  My favorite period of time in WoW was probably during BC…I heavily raided progression content, downed BT/Hyjal before 3.0, and did lots of stupid shit with my friends like camp bodies and glitch out guards on the Isle.  Good times.)
  • What.

I dig this.

(Original here.)

BOOBTUBE:

  • New Cougar Town tonight at 9:30/8:30c on ABC! YEAH.  Dr. Kelso is back this episode.
  • Glee’s 2×20 ‘The Prom Queen’ aired last night.  Kurt and Karofsky wrench my heartstrings.  I have not watched The Voice yet, but I plan on it.
  • I have watched Game of Thrones!  Update coming tomorrow!  I swear!  This post turned out to be too big and I ran out of time today.  Don’t forget to watch Game of Thrones this Sunday.
  • New The Office this thursday, and I actually really enjoyed last week’s episode.  I firmly believe that as long as there is an eccentric boss of some sort, the formula works.  Of course, it won’t be the same without Michael Scott, but it’s still good.  The rest of the cast is hardly chopped liver.  This week… Dwight is manager.  Oh boy.
  • Another new Grey’s Anatomy this week.

EXTRAS:

I don’t know how good the brand is, but it looks pretty cool.  A lip gloss, nail polish, liner, set of fake lashes, AND a 6 color palette for 20 bucks.  Damn.

Hump Day: 5/4/2011

Here’s the things I’m into/looking forward to this week!

Song of the Week

I just love Adele!  I heard the song Turning Tables on Glee, and sadly that is the first that I had heard of Adele.  I listened to a bunch more of her songs, and Rolling the Deep is one of my favorites by far.  Lyrically I can identify with a lot of the lyrics, it’s musical genius, and she has a gorgeous voice.

Gaming, etc.

  • It’s EA week on Steam!  Monday was Dragon Age, Tuesday was Need for Speed, and today is Sims day!  Get Sims 3 at 40% off, and all Sims 3 DLC at 50% off, plus more.  It’s also midweek madness, and Plants vs. Zombies is only $3.40! Dragon Age: Origins Ultimate Edition is also on sale for 9.99.  That’s a damn good deal.
  • It appears that Mass Effect 3 has been pushed back to Q1 2011.  While I was slightly upset in the beginning when I learned this, I’ve decided it’s probably for the best: it gives them more time to polish it.  I’m fully confident that if they had done this with Dragon Age 2, it would have been a 10/10 from me.  Oh well, I still enjoyed it.  Watch the trailer for Mass Effect 3 here.  I’m still ridiculously excited for it.

Product of the Week

Why, Too Faced Shadow Insurance, of course!  Check out my review of it here.

Boobtube

  • New Cougar Town tonight at 9:30/8:30c on ABC!  PEEENNNNYY CAAAAAAAAN!
  • I hope you watched Glee and The Voice last night!
  • New Grey’s Anatomy ‘White Wedding’ on Thursday.  New Game of Thrones this Sunday (review will be up tomorrow, promise!).  I hear the series is really going to pick up around episode 5, according to those who have read the book.  If it can get any better than it already is, then I’m excited.
  • New The Office this Thursday as well.  I wonder how it’ll do without Michael Scott?  I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt.

I also watch Supernatural but I’m saving that ’till all my shows are completed so I have something new to watch this Summer besides Trueblood.

Next week I’ll also start doing an eye look of the week, but I’m too lazy busy today.

What are you into?
